the hills behind me

The first time I ever went hiking back up in this area I went up through the small pass on the left, below the cliffs. It was like a whole new little world. There is a small shallow lake back there, a hot spring that the Indians used to use, and a lot of small mines that were dug way back before 1900 and a few after. I would hike back there a lot more, but this is prime territory for Smugglers to try to bring in BC Bud, so it is heavily watched by the Border Patrol and that feeling that you are "suspect" for wanting to find a nice quiet place. Every once in a while tho, it is worth it..

Frozen Lake

Frozen Lake
Like my heart,
this lake is suspended.
Neither changing or moving,
not growing warmer or colder.
Suddenly stopped; the motion
of the waves.
No wind will ripple the
water today.
It remains silent,
stuck in place.
Unable to give or receive.
Unable to cry out or grieve..
until the warmth envelops
it again.
You are my warmth, Kathy!
saturday morning

Help! Somebody stole all the color off my trees! Plus they put a lot of white stuff all over the place! I actually wandered out of the house (in YOUR boots to take a few pictures. Champaign wandered along the side of the house where the grass was bare, and I believe Shadow is buried deep in the blankets getting his rest. The hills in the background are Canada.
printing pages

If you wish to print out a days' entry, look at the right hand side of Kathy's page and scroll down a bit to the Previous Posts section. Click on the one that you want to print out. This will load up that one only. Otherwise if you just start from the beginning it will print up about 8 pages. It will not print all black, it switches to a white background for printing out because computers are smart and know how much the damn ink costs! Look up at the top left corner of the screen. Click on File. Then you can click on Print, and that will print out just that one post. It's really easy, you can do it! I Love You!
oh goody!

Well, today was fun! I had to go to work at 10 because of a truck delivery, I had to hustle like hell to get the loading dock ramp shoveled off so he wouldn't slide into it, so instead he gets stuck in the parking lot. IN ABOUT AN INCH AND A HALF OF SNOW. It was so wet, that as soon as his tires went over it,... instant ice. So I had to do more quick shoveling, while ducking UNDER the trailor of the truck, and throwing rock salt down so he could get some traction. After that, I got to unload the truck in the snow, get all the cases covered up with plastic until I could get to them, then shovel out some of the parking lot where people could get out of their cars without falling on their asses. It was a very slick snow. I had to go home once to change clothes because I was just soaked! But I got your card today, so all is well! I tried everything but couldn't get your picture to come out clear. I was going to ask you WHO took the picture when I put it in the scanner I saw the back of it. Kinda looks like a wall mirror, huh? Color just wasn't clear enough! I'm off to bed to dream of you again! Good nite, Love!

I work until 6 pm, then I'm supposed to stop at Gary's for a plate.

display

This is the display setup I've been working on for the last couple days. It's almost finished. I'll have a picture of that too. The one on my blog has me in it, but I didn't send it to you cus I was standing by the cheerleaders, and I didn't want you to get jealous! It's a display for customers to enter a drawing put on by Crown Royal, for a chance to win tickets to this years' Superbowl game. Employees can't enter, dammit! I'd sell the tickets. It's gonna be in Detroit!

Job opening : Undercover Smoke Detector
Initiative 901: Smoking ban sails to victoryState will have strictest restrictions in nation
By JULIE DAVIDOWSEATTLE POST-INTELLIGENCER REPORTER
Soon, smokers will be asking for more than a light.
They're also going to need a tape measure.
A proposal to ban smoking inside public places and workplaces sailed to victory last night as expected despite a controversial rule that forbids lighting up within 25 feet of doors, windows and vents. Passers-by are exempted.
The win for Initiative 901 gives Washington the nation's strictest statewide smoking ban, barring smoking in places such as bars, restaurants, clubs, bowling alleys and non-tribal casinos. The measure takes effect in 30 days.
"We are proud, happy and delighted," said Michael Sullivan, spokesman for the American Cancer Society, a sponsor of the measure. "People ... stood up and said we believe this is the right thing to do. We know the health impact of secondhand smoke and we're proud to stand along (with) others who are trying to protect their community."
Dave Wilkinson, a security worker at a Renton bowling alley who led the minimal opposition to the initiative, said he wasn't surprised by the outcome.
"It kind of comes back to the fact that we just didn't have the money to get out and inform the voters," Wilkinson said.
A loud cheer rose from the crowd when the first election results came in at Kells Irish Restaurant & Pub in Seattle, where supporters of the measure celebrated a substantial early lead that held throughout the night.
Meanwhile, just outside the door, Anne Smith, 29, and her stepsister, Mary Swanson, 26, were puffing hungrily.
var bnum=new Number(Math.floor(99999999 * Math.random())+1);
document.write('');
var campaignID = "Advertising.com_1005-300"; var maxViews = 3; var maxMinutes = 1440; var classID = "Advertising300"; var capit = 1;
Nevertheless, they said they support the ban. "I do think it should pass -- as a smoker," said Swanson. "I smoked 10 years, I quit, and when I started again, it was in a bar."
She admitted, however, to a hankering for what will soon be the good old days. "I'd like there to be two or three underground places where I could still smoke."
"It's called your house or your car," interjected Smith, who had no idea she'd walked into the pro-law rally, as she put it.
"Maybe I'll quit with the law," Smith added. "That'd be a good thing."
Unlike Washington's measure, most other statewide bans exempt some businesses, such as bars, private clubs, card rooms and cigar lounges. And no state has a deeper no-smoking buffer than Washington's proposed 25-foot rule. (Some cities do.)
Under the ban, Washington businesses can seek waivers from the 25-foot buffer if they can show that smoke wouldn't infiltrate the business.
The ban will not apply to tribal lands, including casinos.
The measure authorizes local health departments to enforce the ban on businesses with fines or license restrictions.
Roger Valdez, manager of the Tobacco Prevention Program for Public Health -- Seattle & King County, said officials are more interested in clearing the air than handing out fines.
"Our plans are really education, education, education and then enforcement," Valdez said.
Local law enforcement agencies will be responsible for enforcing the initiative against individuals, with violators subject to a $100 fine.
The proposal was largely sponsored by health care interests. The American Cancer Society contributed $521,000 of the campaign's $1.38 million.
Wilkinson and his allies raised a little more than $12,000, largely from bars and non-tribal casinos.

From Deep Bay

I went to get my brake lights fixed this morning and found out the parts weren't in yet because of a landslide on the pass, so I had a bit of extra time. This is at deep bay park just before you get to boundary point. The town stuff in the background is Canada. It felt a bit cold and lonely without you. A Nudge would have fit in REALLY WELL !

just before dark

This is looking out the warehouse door about twenty minutes before dark. I thought it looks like something out of the movie Independence Day but it was cool to look at. The little strip of water is Osoyoos Lake. The trees up close are real young apple orchard. The guy really missing you is standing behind the camera!

driftwood caught in time

Somebody might recognize this, maybe not. This is the piece of driftwood that Bob filmed with the video camera. I call it Bobwood. Remember when I took pictures off my tv set when we had the tape? I always wanted to draw or paint this someday, I thought it was an excellent looking piece of wood! Thanks Bob! I hope you didn't have a copywrite on this!

Cats
Shadow waits with his eyes on the door
sitting there on the floor
As Champaign is out beginning to explore
Outside the darkness covers all
the leaves of gold and red, of fall
concealing the cat about to crawl
The wind grows impatient with the night
rounding corners out of sight
carrying with it, a northern bite
but I only see this alone

first sign of snow

Well, I wasn't expecting to see this when I walked outside for a smoke tonight, looks to me like a lite dusting of snow. That doesn't mean it will stick, and this is about 1000 feet higher than me, I am right at 1000 feet above sea level. All it did today was lightly rain, not even enough to put on a coat.
As far down the valley as you can see in this picture is about 20 miles, the riverside camera is about 35 miles south of me, that's as close as there is one. I put that, the spanish head camera, and an email link on the right here, but the email kevin link seemed to put me right back to the yahoo page, so I don't know about that one yet. I thought it might go directly to an email screen. maybe it will on yours.

I took a quick picture of the fog when I was flying out of the house for work this morning ( yes, technically, five minutes before noon IS still morning! As you can see the trees are already starting to lose their leaves, I got here pretty much at the end of them.
